Day 6

So we are 6 days into 30 day elimination-type diet, and I have to say, it's going better than I thought it would. We are eating mostly raw fruit and vegetables during the day and meat and veggies for dinner. I have been really good about trying to make sure I eat something every 3 hours, so that I can keep my metabolism moving, and so I don't over-eat at dinner. The hardest thing for me to stay away from is the nuts and cheese (I don't know why.) We cook with coconut oil instead of vegetable/canola oil and you can't even tell a difference. You would think that all of your food would taste like coconut, but it didn't. Just in case you are wondering, here are the things we can not eat for 30 days: Arrowroot, Gourd, Green Bananas, Chestnuts, Jicama, Kohlrabi, Okra, Parsnips, Plantains, Sweet Potato, Taro, Tapioca, Yams, Yucca, Eggs, Dairy (of any kind, including butter) Seeds (including spices made from seeds), Nuts (of any kind), Cocoa, Coffee, Potatoes, Tomato, Eggplant, Peppers (including spicy and bell), Gluten (wheat, rye, barley), so no bread at all, Rice, Pasta, Beans (of any kind), no soy (of any kind), which means no tofu, no alcohol, no caffeine, and no sugar (unless it's naturally in the food), so that means no soda :o( I have to say that I already feel tons better. My stomach doesn't hurt, my headaches are going away, and I'm not having any digestive problems. I just feel healthier... Here are some of the things we have had for dinner this past week (not in any particular order). This is Cinnamon Beef Braised with Buttenut Squash. It tastes WAY better than it looks in the picture...
We had it with Braised Kale (the one with the mushrooms). Bouchet and the boys loved it and I liked this so much that I have made this,(the kale) for lunch almost every day this week.
This is Chicken Pad Thai. It was made with a Broccoli Slaw, instead of noodles. And let me tell you this was by far my favorite dish of the week. The flavors were amazing. This is probably going to be a go to for us because it was so easy to make.
We had the Pad Thai with Ginger-Garlic Cauliflower Rice. This is by far better than any rice I have ever eaten. The flavor of the cauliflower gives so much to this dish. A perfect match up.
This is Crockpot Honey Apple Pork Lion. Sorry, I don't have a picture of it cooked. This was also really good and one of Bouchet's Favorites.
We had the pork with Bacon Braised Brussels Sprouts. Now I have to admit, that I was a little skeptical about this one. I have never had Brussels Sprouts before, but had heard that most people don't like them. But the picture looked too good not to try. And I'm glad we did because they were awesome!
Friday we had Egg-Free, Tomato-Free (Hidden Liver Meatloaf). This was not one of my favorite dishes. I just am not a meat-loaf kinda girl. A little too much meat for me. The flavor was good, Bouchet and the big boys tore it up. I will probably make it again, because Meatloaf is Bouchet's favorite food, but next time, I am not putting the liver or the fennel in it.
We had the meatloaf with Mashed Cauliflower. It was slammin. Again, this was just as good as mashed potatoes. I put some of the juice from the meatloaf on top of the mashed cauliflower, and it was really good. Didn't even miss the gravy... (we also had a side of steamed broccoli with it)
We had so much food this week, that we were able to do a night where we just ate main-dish leftovers (there weren't any veggies left over). I don't think we had to throw anything away. Hoping the next 24 days go as smooth as the past 6...I will do a post sometime next week explaining why we are doing this diet and what we hope to gain from it. Ps... I didn't take the pictures, I copied them from the websites that I got the recipes from.

A Birthday Letter

Dear Nan and Papa, So I know that you are in heaven right now, and you'll never be able to read this letter, but hopefully it will make me feel better writing everything that I'm feeling, down. So here it goes... So as you know, today was Mom and my birthday. She turned the big 5-0 and I 31. We had a little get together for mom last night, at her new house, and it turned out fabulous! It really was great. Everyone had such a good time. I think she felt really blessed. You guys would be so proud of mom if you were here. She had made it her mission, for her birthday, to bless a family in need. Troy's friend's dad passed away unexpectedly 9 days ago, leaving behind a wife and 3 sons ranging in age from 2 to 12. So mom's made it her mission for her birthday celebration to do any and everything that she can to help this family out. She has such a big heart, and is such a great person. Even though we may have our differences, I really am proud that I get to call her mom. And I know that you were both proud to call her daughter......................................................... So, for her birthday, mom wanted Robbie, Troy and I to sing her a song. In front of everybody. Did I mention that we are not singers? There was a time, long ago, that I really could sing well, but I don't know what happened. It's like, I grew up and my voice just stopped working. I miss it. Oh don't get me wrong, that hasn't stopped me from singing in the shower. And in the car. And with the boys while we are cleaning the house. They don't care that I can't sing well. They just love singing with me. Anyways, so we (Robbie, Troy, the boys and I) got up in front of everybody and sang "Put A Little Love In You're Heart" by Mary Mary, from the movie Stuart Little 2, one of mom's favorite movies. I think that you guys would have been so proud of us. Proud of the fact that, even though we were horrible, (and none of us really wanted to do it), we sucked it up and sang our little hearts out, for mom, just like she wanted. Everybody loved it. Not the fact that we sounded like dying cats, lol, but the fact that we cared enough to do it for her. I was sooo nervous. I was shaking so bad, and I almost couldn't remember my lyrics, and my hands were shaking so bad I couldn't read my paper. LOL. We were a hot mess :o) And you should have been there for the "Barn Tour". I think you guys would have loved it. I don't think anybody that heard the story and saw the mural left without shedding a tear. It was just beautiful............................................. But now I'm sitting here today, on our actual birthday, and the house is quiet, the boys are sleeping and Bouchet is in bed. And I should be happy because I had an amazing birthday today. I have so much to be thankful for. We had such a good time wine tasting, and going out to eat. But all I can think about is the both of you. It's just not the same without you here. And I am overwhelmed by how much I miss you. My heart is aching, and I can't stop crying and I feel like there is this huge hole in my heart, that will never be filled. Like part of it is going to be broken forever, like I'm not ever gonna be whole again. I can't even put into words how bad it hurts right now... I never realized how much I would miss the cards I got in the mail from you, Papa, every birthday, anniversary and Christmas. The holidays are so empty without you. And I never realized how much I would miss spending the night with the boys at your house, like we used to do, Nan, before you got sick. We used to have so much fun. It just breaks my heart to know that the boys will have to grow up with out you guys. They miss you so much! I know they didn't have a lot of time with you, but my biggest fear is that they will forget the time that they did have with you. Because that time was so special... I couldn't have asked for better grandparents. I didn't matter that our family wasn't always picture perfect. All that mattered was that we loved each other. There is SO much I would give up, just to spend one more day with both of you. But I know that it's impossible. And I know that in time, it will hurt less and less. But I don't know if, or how even, I can ever go through another birthday without crying for you, because you both meant everything to me. Words will never be able to express what a profound impact the both of you had on my life... Well, I guess it is time to dry my tears. There are only 12 minutes left until my birthday is no more. And I know neither of you would want me to be sad on my birthday. You would want me to be as happy as one could possibly be. Just know that I love you both, and I think of you often, and that remembering the good times usually outweighs the sadness of losing you... I don't really know how to end this letter. I don't want to, nor can I say goodbye. So I guess I'll just say: Until I see you again. I love you both to infinity and beyond. -Tiffany-

Definitely Bigger Than A Spider

Our dirty laundry had started to take over our house and garage, so when I woke up this morning, I decided that I couldn't put it off any longer and started moving it all into the garage. Now, I have learned from previous experience, that you always check the washing machine before you start throwing clothes into it. (I once found a mouse in a pile of laundry that I had just pulled out of the washer and had to rewash the entire load). I glanced into the drum and saw what seemed to be a wash cloth at the bottom of the drum. No biggie. I reached inside the drum to pull the wash cloth out when all of a sudden, I realized it wasn't a wash cloth. OH SHIT! I screamed at the top of my lungs. "Babe, you have got to come check this out" I said. "Is it a spider, because I don't wanna see another spider" he replied. "No, I replied, it is definitely bigger than a spider". The boys came outside and peaked into the washer, than hubby came out and peaked into the washer. What The F... ! Was his surprised reply. Inside our washer, was this:
A BABY DOVE!!!! I asked the boys to bring me 2 plastic bags (it may be cute but who knows what kind of diseases it may be carrying ) and a shoe box. After some discussion, we decided to put it in the box and let it go out front. If for whatever reason it couldn't fly away, we would take it to the SPCA. I grabbed the baby bird, and carefully placed it in the box. Hubby put the lid on it and took it out front. We carefully lifted the lid, and...
It just sat there... I snapped another pic with my DSLR and lifted my phone up to take a picture with that too. I must have scared the baby bird when I lifted my hand because all of a sudden, it flapped it's wings and flew away. And just when it got over the neighbor's fence, another dove flew down from the tree to guide her baby to safety. One more picture of our bird:
Isn't she cute?

Getting Rid Of The Clapp

So for those of you that don't personally know us, or don't know us very well, my husband is addicted to Craigslist. No seriously, I'm not even kidding. It's like an obsession. If they had a Craigslist Anonymous, he'd need to be the first one to sign up. If he's watching t.v., he's on my laptop browsing Craigslist at the same time. His home screen for the desktop computer, Craigslist. He even downloaded a Craigslist app for his phone. So now he can browse Craigslist, while we are going to bed, driving in the car, at church, at the doctor's office, while eating dinner (in a restaurant or at home) and even on the toilet. Yes, I went there. And he didn't just browse for himself either, he browsed for other people as well. You mentioned in passing that you were looking for a washer, 10 minutes later he had 5 saved to his favorites to show you. You were thinking about buying a new car in 3 months, by the end of the night, he had sent you pictures of 50 cars and called everyone of them and could tell you exactly what might be wrong with them and why or why not they would be a good/bad purchase and exactly what price he had talked the seller down to. Now, while I knew he had the Craigslist app on his phone (which unbenounced to me, was placed directly on his home screen) One day, I mentioned that I needed to find something on Craigslist. He offered to find it for me, but I politely declined and said that I wanted to look for myself. I asked to use his phone and he (grudgingly) handed it over. I swear I spent 10 minutes trying to find the Craigslist app on his phone. I couldn't find anything that remotely looked like it might be an app for Craigslist. I finally gave up and asked him what it looked like. He grabbed his phone and pointed out an app that had a peace sign as it's icon. Now underneath the peace was the word, CLapp. I started laughing so hard that I had tears running out of both my eyes and snot coming out of my nose. He apparently didn't see what was so funny and was getting really frustrated. He asked what the hell I was laughing at. I was like, really!?! Really, Bouchet, you did not realize that your Craigslist app was called clapp. CLAPP! (*Sidenote: for those of you that don't know, clap is the slang word for Gonorrhea, which is an STD.) Apparently he didn't find it so funny. But I continued to laugh. So for the next 6 months or so, every time he was on Craigslist, I would make some comment about HIS clapp. If I needed to use his phone to look for something on Craigslist, I would just ask if I could use his clapp. (No, the joke never got old for me). Fast forward to today. We dropped our kids off at VBS (vacation bible school) and decided that since it was Friday, it was relatively early, and we didn't have anything else to do, we would hit up a couple of garage sales. We found a couple in our neighborhood, bought some books (well I did), and a thingy you put lawn fertilizer in and you push it around and it fertilizes your grass. I wasn't seeing anymore signs for yard sales, so I asked him to look it up on the CLapp. He mentioned to me that he upgraded his Craigslist app, but I didn't really think anything of it. We couldn't find anymore garage sales, so we proceeded to the local hardware store to buy some fertilizer for our new fertilizer thingy. While at the hardware store, he again mentioned that he updated his app for Craigslist. I asked what it looked like now and he showed me. It was the same picture of the peace sign, but underneath, instead of CLapp it simply said Craiglist. So there, in the hardware store in front of God, the workers and everybody else, I started dying laughing and congratulated him on finally getting rid of the CLapp. Which he didn't find too funny :o)

Back To Blogging...Again...

I haven't blogged for a while. 527 days to be exact. Wow!?! Has it really been that long? It doesn't feel like it's been that long. But I guess time has a way of passing by faster than we realize. Kids are a perfect example of how that happens... One day you are in the bathroom peeing on a stick for the first (but surely not last) time in your life and the next day you have 3 kids with the oldest getting ready to start 5th grade, the middle getting ready to start 3rd grade and a hyper-active 4 year old that is both the love of your life and the biggest pain in your ass. I originally started this blog for fun. It was a good way to be able to express myself creatively. I really do love to write. I have been and avid reader/writer since I was a little girl. Granted, I may not have been so into reading and writing as much if I hadn't spent a lot of time growing up, grounded. I tend to have a lot of personality, and usually don't have any problems expressing my opinion, even when other people don't want/need to hear it. Ok, yes. I was a smart ass. I always had something to say, and I always had to have the last word. And that kinda got me in trouble...A lot. Who am I kidding. It still does. Haha Blogging was also good way for the people that I love, that don't live close to us, to be able to keep up on what is going on with our family. It's nice to be able to share funny stories with people that you love, because really, whose kids are funnier, or more special than mine I'm totally joking). Especially when you are not being limited to 140/420 characters and the grammar mistakes that you have to commit to be able to fit what you have to say in that limited amount of space... Ahem. Now the problem I was having with blogging, was that I was feeling like I was writing for everyone else and not for me. My life isn't always cupcakes and rainbows (gasp!). Sometimes it's brussels sprouts and tornadoes. I was spending far too much time being being worried about what everyone else would think. And not enough time writing what mattered to me. So my pledge to myself here on out is to start writing about what I am truly feeling. If I am having a good day, my posts will probably be happy, with lots of smiley faces. If I'm not having such a good day, than my posts are going to reflect that. And if people don't like it, than I need to be ok with that. So there you have it. For better or worse, love me or hate me, this blog will truly be about the world inside my head.

Where Did Daddy's Keys Go?

My husband, Bouchet is a construction worker. Which means that he has to commute to work every day. He can be commuting anywhere from half an hour one way to a couple of hours one way. Lately he has been working a couple of hours away. So what the company does, is put him up in a hotel during the week, and he comes home on weekends (saves us a ton of money in gas and bridge toll).

So he comes home last Thursday night (Friday was a holiday) and puts his keys on my dresser. But wait, not only does he put his keys on the dresser, he puts the keys to the car he borrowed for the week from our friend Robert* on the dresser also. Kai and I had been laying in my bed because I wasn't feeling well and the big boys were in the playroom watching a movie.

So he comes in and lays down on the bed next to me, and we end up just hanging out in the room for a while, catching up on how our weeks went. While we are sitting there, Makai is running in and out, playing and stuff. No big deal. Right? Wrong!

At around 11:30 that night, hubby tells me that he is going to go outside and lock up Roberts car, and roll the back window up on my SUV. He goes in the room, comes back out and asks me if I'd seen the keys because he remembers putting them on the dresser before he showered, so he wouldn't loose them.

We go in the room and start looking for the keys. No luck. We search all over the house for the keys. No luck. By this time we are starting to panic because the key to Robert's car wasn't on hubby's key ring, it was just sitting next to them on the dresser. By itself. One little key, lost in a 1700 square foot house.

Well, one of Makai's favorite things to do is to take any keys he finds laying around, and "start" his bike with them. And yes, he had been riding his bike.

We search the house again, and can't find the keys anywhere. So I suggest that we wake Makai up and ask him if he'd seen the keys.

So we wake up Kai and he tells us that Daddy's keys are in the garbage. I think that may still be dreaming and ask him again where daddy's key are. And again he tells us that they are in the garbage. Now, the week before, Hubby had taken the garbage can outside to clean it and never brought it back in, so I had just been using one of those big, black 30 gallon trash bags for the garbage.

And it was full.

Hubby starts poking through the trash and finds his keys, but not the key to the car he borrowed. By this time I am starting to panic. I'm pretty sure that the key to Robert's car is chipped, and that means that we can't just have a locksmith come out to the house and make another key, we have to go to the dealer, and get another key for the car. And that means money. And we are currently out of money because I had just picked my SUV up at the dealer that morning and had to pay them $700.

We now what we need to do next, but neither of us really want to do it. We go into the kitchen an dump the 30 gallon trash bag onto the floor and proceed to go through it, piece by piece. 10 minutes later, all the trash has been gone through, there is coffee grinds all over the floor, but still no key.

We wake Kai up, show him a single black key (like Robert's) and ask him where he put the key. "Oh" he replies, "I put it on Daddy's car". Now we are really confused. I ask hubby if there is any way that Kai could have gotten outside without us knowing (scary thought). Turns out, Bubba had taken the dog out to go to the bathroom, and Kai had went outside with him.

Hubby goes out the front door, and what does he find? Robert's key, just sitting there on the porch.

Lesson learned. No more letting Makai play with our keys. And no more leaving them where he can reach them.

Mouse In The House

We had a mouse in the house. I knew it was bound to happen sooner or later, beings behind our backyard is a small hill and past that is the country. I'm just surprised that it took almost 2 years. If it was really quiet inside we could hear it playing with a water bottle cap under the stove. As long as he didn't get into any of our food, I wasn't too worried about it. I knew we would catch it eventually.

It was the boys first day back at school and I wanted to surprise them with breakfast. See I'm not a morning person, so I don't normally (ever) make them breakfast before school. So I go into the living room and open the blinds on the front window. I then turn and go to open the blinds behind the dining room table. As I do this I am mentally taking note of what I see on the floor. Makai's new vacuum, Coco's (our new Mini Pincher) toys, Cali (our cat), sitting next to her toy mouse. Wait. Toy mouse? I don't remember buying her one of those.

And then it dawns on me. Oh Crap! She caught the mouse!

So I have this moment of panic, like what do I do? I think it is dead, so the smart thing to do would be to get something to pick it up with so I can throw it in the trash. And then Cali takes a swipe at it and it runs across the floor. I scream, of course and run into the kitchen to try to find something to trap it with. Nothing. I start to panic. I run into the play room and get the butterfly net, run back into the living room and throw it over the mouse. Cali is freaking out, trying to get at the mouse. "Parker" I yell. "Parker get up! I need help!" "Cali caught a mouse and I need you to find me the bug catcher" (a plastic tub that has a lid with air holes in it). So he comes out of the room and brings me the broken one with no lid.

I'm like "really Parker?" "I'm gonna put this live mouse in something without a lid?"

By this time the cat is frantically trying to get to the mouse and bumps the net and the mouse runs out, across my foot and runs behind the computer. I of course scream and run the opposite direction.

"Bubba!" "Bubba wake up! Cali caught a mouse and I need the bug catcher with the lid."

Cali picks the mouse up with her teeth, and carries it across the room and puts it on the floor.

Apparently she thinks that It is some kind of cool toy.

I trap it with the butterfly net again, when Bubba comes into the room with the bug catcher (it was in the garage on the dryer because a very large wolf spider was living in it for a while).

By this time Parker is freaking out. He doesn't want Cali (or me) to hurt it because he thinks it will make a really cute pet. I try to explain to him that field mice have diseases, and if he wants a mouse pet that we will have to go to the pet store and get one.

As I am attempting to get this mouse into the bug catcher (the boys are sitting on the floor watching) it gets loose again and runs toward Bubba and starts climbing up his pants leg. "Run Bubba,Run" I scream. Bubba gets up and runs and the mouse falls onto the floor where the cat, once again, grabs it in her mouth. She puts it on the floor where I throw the bug catcher over it. Now I just have to figure out how to get get it flipped over so I can close the lid, without letting the mouse loose. With some fin-dangling and the help of a board book (which is now in the trash), we get upright and close the lid. The boys are now trying to convince me that we should just give it a bath to wash the diseases off of it. I tell the boys that we can let it go in the field down the street after school, so it can be free and go find its family.

They boys never did get their breakfast.

Happy New Years

So it is December 31,2011 10:20pm. New Years Eve. At first I was mad because I wanted to be out somewhere partying, bringing in the New Year. I did not want to be sitting here at home, sober, with the kids, just hanging out. But I've been sitting here with my hubby at the computer for the last hour watching a slide show of the past 3 years of our lives.

Me pregnant and the birth of Kai, Thanksgivings in Tahoe, Disneyland with some of our best friends, hubby's brother's birthday, Kai's first birthday, a couple Christmas', the birth of 2 of my nieces, clubbin with my Boos, Partying in our old apartments, our first house, our move to Vacaville, soccer, field trips, my Grandma's funeral ......Life.

And man. All I can say is that I feel very blessed right now. It seems like all the bad times and heartbreak just melt away when you see all the good times flash before your eyes. We have been through so much together, both good and bad, and I can honestly say that there is no where else I would rather be and there is one else that I would rather spend the rest of my life with.

You Are My Soul Mate and I Will Love You Until The End Of Time and Beyond.

Happy New Years Bouchet

ARIZONA

In Tucson, it is illegal for women to wear pants.

In Glove it is illegal to play cards in the street with a Native American (I'm guessing that on the sidewalk is okay).

In Glendale, it is illegal to drive a car in reverse (so all houses have circular driveways?).

In Nogalas it is illegal to wear suspenders (because they would rather see someones butt crack?).

It is illegal to walk thru a hotel lobby in spurs.

Cutting down a cactus is punishable by a 25 year prison sentence.

If you commit a misdemeanor while wearing a red mask, it is considered a felony.

It is illegal to manufacture imitation cocaine (the real stuff is okay?).

Hunting camels is prohibited. (I wasn't aware camels were native to America)

It is illegal to refuse a person a glass of water.

In Prescott, it is illegal to ride your horse up the stairs of the county courthouse.

It is illegal for any person over the age of 18 to have more than one missing tooth showing when they smile.

In Mohave County, if you are caught stealing soap, you must wash yourself until it is all used up (um, yeah).

It is illegal to posses more than two dildos in any household.

Oral Sex is considered Sodomy.

And last but not least.....

In 1985, an Arizona legislator proposed that each candidate running for the legislature must take a reading and an I.Q. test three months before the election. The scores would then have been posted on the ballot. It was voted down.

Grieving Part 2

*I wrote this blog back in August or September. I was not able to post it before this because the pain was too strong. I still get weepy when I read it, but through writing, I am able to find healing.*

Today I was going through some photos of my wedding and when Parker/Bubba were babies. I wasn’t prepared for how many pictures there were of my Grandma. The fresh round of grief that came over me when I saw them almost knocked me off my feet. My heart felt like it was breaking all over again and the tears just wouldn’t stop. She was such a huge part of my life growing up. I have so many memories of us together. Waking up in her bed after my mom would drop me off before going to work. Shopping together. Taking walks to the creek when I was like two years old, to throw rocks in the water. It’s like having home-movies, playing over and over again in my mind.

I had such high expectations when my Mom moved her up here to the Assisted Living Facility last May. She was finally going to get better, I just knew it. Nobody could tell me any different. All she needed was someone to give her that little push to help her get better. After all wasn’t this a place that was designed to help seniors regain their freedom? I guess I thought she was a product of her environment before she came. Living in a convalescent home wasn’t going to help her get better; it was just going to help enable her to stay sick.

We (my mom, her friend and I) worked so hard decorating her little “studio apartment” so that she would feel at home when she came. We brought some of her pictures, and her lamps. We brought the clock that my Aunt gave her for her birthday all her porcelain figurines. We painted, and bought new bathroom stuff and bedding so it would all match. We put plants top of the cabinets and new dishes in them. We stocked the little dorm sized fridge with the Diet 7-up that she liked.

It just never even occurred to me that she wouldn’t get better. I would call my Mom every day and ask if she was getting better. And after she fell and My Mom, Dad and I sat in the hospital with her all night, I thought maybe now they will be able to tell why she wasn’t getting better. Maybe she just needed a better hospital. Maybe she just needed better doctors. Maybe she just needed us to pray just a little bit harder. I kept waiting for God to perform the miracle that I was asking for.

And when I got that call saying that she wasn’t going to make it more than a couple days longer, I thought maybe the doctors were wrong. Maybe, just maybe, God was waiting until the last minute. You know, testing how strong our faith in him was.
I wasn’t angry when she passed, because like I said in a previous post, I knew she was going to a better place. A place where she could see her parents, and her husband, and her little grandson who died when he was three. A place of music and dancing and rejoicing. A place with no sickness and no tears. And I know in the Bible that it says that she will have now remembrance of the life that she had on earth, but I can’t help but think that she is my guardian angel, smiling down on us, and counting down the days until we can all be together once again.

I look back now and think about how naïve I was about the whole situation. And the regrets. Oh God, So many regrets. Why didn’t I visit her more? Why did it bother me so much to see her sick? I guess it’s because I wanted to hold on to the memory of what she used to be, and I was afraid all I would remember was seeing her sick. But that wasn’t fair to either of us because we both missed out. She missed out on having my unconditional devotion, but I missed out on so much more, because I missed out on Her.

Wacky Law Wednesdays

Every Wednesday I am going to do a post about some of the wacky laws in America. I will go state by state, alphabetically.

I think that the funny thing about these laws is they have had to come into effect AFTER someone did each of these things.

ALABAMA

In Jasper Alabama, it is illegal to beat your wife with a stick larger than your thumb.

In it is illegal to wear a dark moustache that may cause laughter in church.

Bear wrestling is illegal.

It is illegal to play Dominos on Sundays.

It is illegal to flick boogers into the wind. (EWWW!)

It is LEGAL to drive the wrong way down a one way street IF you have a lantern tied to the front of your car.

It is illegal to drive blindfolded. (DUH!)

In Anniston, Alabama it is illegal to wear blue jeans down Nobel Street. (I am assuming black and other colors are ok)

Women of uncertain chastity must be off the streets by 9pm.

Children born of incest are deemed legitimate as are incestuous marriages. (um, yeah. No comment)

It is illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket at any time.

In the event of a divorce, women retain all the property the brought into the marriage. Men excluded.

In Mobile Alabama, it is illegal to howl at women inside city limits.

It is illegal to stab yourself to gain someone's pity.

In Decatur Alabama, slavery is still legal. (how does that work?)

And last but not least:

It is illegal to chain your alligator to a fire hydrant.

Sign Language

So I'm sitting on the couch writing some notes for my Sociology class when Parker comes over and sits down.

Me: Do you need something Parker?

Parker: I was just wondering if you had any brothers and sisters.
Me: You know your 2 uncles, those would be my brothers.

Parker: So you don't have any sisters?

Me: Ummmm. No. No sisters.

Parker: Oh. Ok

*Now I'm curious*

Me: Why did you want to know if I had any sisters?

Parker: Because I thought if you had a sister and she was deaf she could like, you know, teach me sign language.

*Where in the world do they come up with these things?*

Tiffany and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

I got the title for this post form a book I used to have when I was younger. It was called, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Here's my version.

I woke up at 7:30 this morning to a voicemail from my hubby stating that on his way home form work, the motor on our 1992 Mazda 626 blew, and he was stuck several towns away. The car had 275,000 miles on it and a leaky water pump, so we knew it was gonna go sooner than later, but were hoping for later rather than sooner.

I get up and get Parker and Bubba ready for school, and just as I am getting ready to walk out the door, in walks my husband. I give him the "we are gonna talk about this when I get back" look and leave.

In the middle of our "discussion," Makai starts throwing up on the playroom floor. No biggie right? Right.

Makai throws up three more times and Hubby decides he's had enough discussing the car and goes to bed.

I get dressed so I can go run my errands and Makai falls asleep on the playroom floor. I put him in bed with his daddy and get ready to leave. I no sooner then walk out of the bedroom door when Makai starts throwing up in my bed. On. My. Clean. Sheets.

I decide to just take him with me and put him in the car with a receiving blanket tucked around his lap. I get maybe 1 1/2 miles down the road when he starts throwing up again. I cut across 2 lanes of traffic, pull over on the side of the road and pull him out of the car. I clean him up and put him back in the car with a clean receiving blanket tucked around him. (I brought several, just in case)

We then head over to PG&E where the lady informs me that she can't process my payment because the system is down. She then tells me to come back in an hour. I tell her (on the verge of tears)that it's been a really stressful morning and that I have to go out of town to get my car that broke down and I can't come back in an hour. She, being the nice lady that she was, agrees to take my check and just put it through when the system comes back up. I thank her profusely and put Makai (who only has a pair of short on) back into his seat. I back out of the parking spot when Makai starts throwing up again.

We get on the freeway and drive the 25 minutes to where the car is sitting, and I run into a nearby gas station to get the address. When I come back out to the car, Makai is of course throwing up again.

I call the tow company. Nobody answers. I then realize that I DON'T HAVE THE KEY TO THE CAR WITH ME. It's back at the house.

I drive the 25 miles back to the house get the key and drive back to where the car is. By this time my baby has FINALLY stopped throwing up and is complaining of being thirsty. Ya think?

An hour later, we are sitting in my truck drinking apple juice and eating Doritos, when the tow truck finally arrives and the diver informs me that he doesn't even need the key to get the car onto his truck. Great.

We get the car back to my house and unload it. (Hubby apparently is still sleeping) I than rush to the boys school, pick them up, go to the bank, run a couple of other errands and finally go back home. Hubby is in the house trying to find a way to get the car back home. (Apparently he hadn't been outside yet)

I then help the boys with their homework, and after hubby leaves for work, feed them Top Ramon for dinner because I am too tired to cook. After I finally get them all to bed,I put the clean sheets and blankets back on my bed and pass out.

So yeah, that's the edited, slimmed down version of my Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

Non Comformist

I was always a non-conformist growing up. If you had an opinion about something, I disagreed and if there was a rule about something I broke it.

Example:

No Talking Back: Broken (I was nick-named Mouth of the South growing up by my dad).

No Lying: Broken (I cut class once and lied so well about it, I completely convinced myself that I didn't do it and was beside myself when I got punished for it).

No Stealing: Broken(In high school I had quite the collection of key chains from Spencers).

As I got older, I got a little better with following the rules. Kinda.

I just don't believe speen limits apply to me. (I really do believe that the government posts speed limits for the people that can't drive as well as I can).

So why? Why, why, why, why, why, did it surprise me that one of my children is also turning out to be a non-conformist?

Any guesses anyone? Yep you guessed it. Its my two yeard old, Makai.

I think he was placed here on earth for the sole purpose of breaking my rule-breaking record. He is so cute that many people may not believe the is as bad as I say he is. Let me give you "doubting thomas's" some example.

He spits in people's faces, bitten just about everyone we know, screams at people when they try to corrct him, refuses to sit in time-out, smeared poop all over the house, won't sleep in his own bed, kicked the cat, tried to rip the ears off my mom's dog, and the list keeps going.

Some people may think that he lacks dicipline, but if you read my post titled "Time-Out and Tobasco Sauce", you know this just isn't true.

He's just a non-conformist to the core.

Intruder in the Backyard

Hubby has been working nights the last couple of weeks so, among other things, I have taken over the job of watering the grass. We used to have this nice automated sprinkler system but our dog (whom is no longer with us)ate the wiring so now we have to turn it on and off manually.

Our yard backs up to some hills so although it's nice and private, it is also VERY dark and creepy at night. Now, I am woman enough to admit that I am completely afraid of the dark. And having a very over active imagination doesn't help much either. When I do go out back at night, I go out and come back in quickly, so that anything (human or animal) out there won't be able to get me.

So I go outside the other night around 11:30 to water the grass. It is, of course, all dark and creepy out there. I am bending down fiddling with the sprinklers when all the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I glance up and out of the corner of my eye, I see something in the shadows. No, not something, SOMEONE.

All of the blood in my body turns to ice and I start to shake. My heart stops beating for a couple of seconds. Terror and panic wash over me.

What do I do? Fight or flight? Fight or flight? Flight or fight?

My brain finally kicks in.

RUN!!!!!

I take off at a dead run. As I reach the back door, I look back see that the someone is still standing there. I take another look and realize....

I thought I was gonna get murdered by....

and subsequently ran from.......

the BARBEQUE GRILL!!!!!

The Monster Under The Couch

Makai and I are hanging out on the couch while Hubby is getting ready to leave for work. All of a sudden Cali (the cat) starts yowling. Loudly. I look up, expecting to see her trying to escape out of the front door. She's not there. I get up and find her on the other side of the couch trying to get something underneath. Hmmmm. Probably just a spider or something. I pick up a bag of pullups off of the floor. Nothing there. I scoot the couch down a little. Nothing there either. I scoot the couch away from the wall and out runs this Gigantic Alligator Lizard.

AHHHH!!!! (My heart is racing and I am breathing in shallow gasps.

*side note- I am not normally afraid of lizards. I actually like lizards, snakes, frogs, preying mantis, etc*

I run outside where Hubby is jump-starting his car (bad battery) and yell that there is a monster lizard running loose in the house.

"Did ya catch it" Hubby asks.

"Um no" I really wasn't thinking about that at the time. (All I was thinkin
g was how glad I was that I didn't pee on myself when the lizard tried to eat me). Hubby comes in the house and we proceed to move the couch.

No lizard.

I pick up all the toys under the couch and...

Still no lizard.

By this time Makai is running around brying and saying over and over"It scared you""

Are you sure that you saw a lizard under the couch?"

"No. I imagined all this up so I could have you come in and play Knight In Shining Armor."

"Ass"

We start searching again and finally find the lizard/monster hiding on the fireplace. We try to grab it and it starts climbing up the bricks. I grab the lizard where it starts thrashing around and pees on my hand.

I drop it.

I grab it again and it sticks its tongue out at me.

EEEK! And I drop it again.

(Did I mention that this lizard is like 8 inches long?)

Hubby finally gets it cornered and I scoop it into Bubba's Bug Catcher. I shut the lid and breathe a sigh of relief. The monster is caught.

I grab my phone and snap a couple of pictures, send one to my mmom, (so the big boys can see) and send one to Facebook (of course).

Godzilla (the lizard/monster) gets placed on top of the fireplace so the big boys can let him go when they get home.

I think I'm gonna have the heebie-jeebies all night.

Time-Outs and Tobasco Sauce

It's just me and Makai in the house cause Hubby had already left for work and the big boys are outside riding bikes with their cousin. He (Makai) didn't have a nap today so he was really tired and grumpy. He gets upset about not being able to play out front and starts to yell at me. I put him in his time-out chair and tell him to sit there for a minute.

And so the battle starts.

He starts off by screaming at me. I ignore him. He gets even more upset and start yelling "you hear me, mom" over and over. I continue to ignore him. All of a sudden I hear "YOU DUMMY-ASS".

Oh hell no! He did not just yell that at me. There is NO way I am letting him get away with that.

I go into the kitchen and grab a bottle of hot sauce cause I read this article about parents putting hot sauce on their kids tounges when they curse, talk back etc. (Seemed like a good idea at the time). I walk back over to him (he"s still screaming) and attempt to shake a drop or two onto his tounge.

Maybe I should have practiced first because about a tablespoon came out.

And he swollowed it.

Oops!

He starts crying and choking and gagging and his nose starts watering. I run him over to the sink where he starts heaving. I give him some milk to calm his stomache and stop his nouth from burning. I pick him up and carry him to the couch. We sit down and all he keeps saying over and over is "I no yike da hot sauce mommy".

I now feel like the world's worst mom. Ever.
